APPLE MUSIC: FIRST GEN

Six Illustrations from six regions’ playlists using a Pan-African inspired colour palette with patterns inspired by African fauna, architecture and textiles. The figures are a blend of Western and African representing people who have moved to the West and become Westernised but still hold their heritage dear to their heart.

CONTEXT: First Generation Africans are African natives that were born aboard or children of African natives who were born and are living outside of Africa. The combination of their “at home” parental experiences and new surroundings create an edge, a grit and a different kind of creativity. The artists represented in each playlist pay homage to their native country and cultures; but also celebrate and are heavily influenced by their new experiences & perspectives. First Gen aims to be a love letter, an embrace and a celebration to all the first generation Africans across the world.
